Raúl García on Saturday received an emotional tribute during our team's match against Athletic Club at the Wanda Metropolitano. The midfielder was handed a commemorative plaque by President Enrique Cerezo to celebrate the 329 games he played with the Atleti shirt. Raúl García is the 19th player with the most appearances for our club.
Our former number ‘8’ was an example of courage during his time at Atleti, and he will forever be remembered by our fans due to his many qualities, as well as the 45 goals he scored while defending our shirt. His performances with our team earned him two caps with the Spain national team.
Raúl García defended the Atleti shirt 216 times in LaLiga, 40 in the Copa del Rey, 35 in the Champions League, 32 in the Europa League and twice in the UEFA Super cup, the Spanish Super Cup and the Intertoto Cup. During his time at our club, he won one LaLiga title, one Copa del Rey, two Europa Leagues, two UEFA Super Cups and one Spanish Super Cup.
