Raul Garcia at Atletico until 2018
The club has decided to extend the professional relationship with Raúl García until June 30th 2018. The Navarra born player re joined the team in 2007 and is one of three captains for the first team.
Raúl García remain contracted to Atletico Madrid until June 30th 2018. The current second top scorer with 14 goals is having a spectacular season, having scored in all competitions and being decisive with his contribution to the team.
He joined Atletico Madrid in the 2007-2008 season to play under Javier Aguirre, a coach with whom he had worked at Osasuna. In the first four seasons, Raul Garcia played 179 official matches with the red and whites scoring 9 goals. He actively participated in the UEFA Cup and qualifying for the Champions League. In addition to winning the first Europa League and UEFA Super Cup.
In the 2011-2012 season, he played in the preliminary stage of the Europa League which we ended up winning and he played on loan at Osasuna, where he played 35 matches and scored 11 goals as a second striker. He rejoined Atletico Madrid to conquer the second Europa League and Copa del Rey last season. He was an important player in a brilliant campaign in 2012-2013 that Atletico Madrid finished third in the League and and won Copa del Rey.
In the current season he has emerged as a key player in the red and white playing as a second striker in most situations, but his versatility allows him to play wide or in central midfield. A technically gifted player, he has a punch and the team is taking advantage of the current season, he has managed 14 goals (7 in League, 4 Cup and w Champions League).
Speaking to the red and white website, the player said: "I am very happy with the agreement. Both the club and I wanted to tie it up because I'm very comfortable here."
The Atletico Madrid number 8 made it clear that “now I’ll just keep working to achieve the objectives with the group. Things are going very well and we will work to continue in this run."
Regarding this renewal, José Luis Pérez Caminero, Atletico sporting director said: "Raul has earned his renewal with a lot of good work. He's been a very consistent player the last two seasons. He is one of the strongest men in the changing room and the proof is that this season he is one of three captains. He provides both defensive and attacking option. We are very pleased with this agreement, and we hope he’ll continue here for many more years."
