Quique S. Flores: 'We’ll keep fighting to take the team to Champions”
“I won’t have others laugh at us”
Quique Sánchez Flores appeared very hurt by the last play of the match and didn’t hesitate to explain what happened. “There was an Espanyol player off the pitch and one of his teammates told him to get onto the pitch to waste more time. I don’t like others laughing at us. We’re at our house and you have to have respect; I don’t like what happened. It don’t think it’s very sportsmanlike. I have nothing else to say. I won’t have that play in front of my bench, the referee shouldn’t allow it, but…” he trailed off.
The manager continued to speak about that controversial play and said that “you have to try to understand the different atmospheres. It’s important to know how to lose, but you also have to know how to win. This is done and there’s no reason to keep talking about it. I accept my possible sanction, but it’s the second time that I tried to keep calm, and I was sent off.”
Concerning his analysis of the match, Quique explained that “it was a very open match. At many times it looked like we might be able to win, but it’s also true that we were behind on the scoreboard. It was an open, crazy match, with lots of chances at both goals. It could have changed in either direction and ended in the worst possible way for us.
“I don’t want to keep talking about the referees. They favored us on two plays in San Sebastian and it seemed like we’d been given the world, and we’d been suffering from mistakes all season. I feel for our fans for the loss, they supported us at all times, it was a tough day to come to the stadium but we’ll keep fighting to get the team into Champions spots.”
