PREVIEW | ATLÉTICO DE MADRID VS REAL SOCIEDAD

On the hunt for our eleventh Copa title!

At 21:00 CEST on Saturday, 18 April, at La Cartuja, we will take on the Basque outfit in the cup final.

When the referee blows his whistle for kick-off against Real Sociedad at La Cartuja in Sevilla at 21:00 CEST this Saturday, it will be the start of a game that every Atlético has been eagerly awaiting for a long while.

Diego Pablo Simeone’s men have a date with destiny, as they look to lift the Copa del Rey trophy for the eleventh time in the Club’s history. We go into it after having knocked FC Barcelona out of the UEFA Champions League at the quarter-final stage in midweek. Coincidentally, we also beat the Blaugrana in the Copa semis.

Our opponents in the final are Pellegrino Matarazzo’s Real Sociedad, against whom we saw victory in LaLiga at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano last month. That day, we won 3-2 thanks to a Sørloth goal and a brace by Nico González.

The Txuri-Urdin, on the other hand, booked their ticket to Seville after beating fellow Basque side Athletic Club in the semi-finals. The goalscorers were Beñat Turrientes (in the 1-0 win at San Mamés in the first leg) and Mike Oyarzabal at Anoeta (also 1-0). Real Sociedad’s cup run has seen them make it past Negreira, Reus, Eldense, CA Osasuna, Deportivo Alavés and Athletic Club.

In their last game, the Txuri-Urdin recorded a 3-3 draw with Deportivo Alavés in LaLiga. The goals came from Sucic, Oskarsson and an Antonio Sivera own goal. They currently sit seventh in the league on 42 points.

In our own cup campaign, we knocked out Atlético Baleares, Deportivo La Coruña, Real Betis, and, as mentioned above, FC Barcelona on the way to reaching our first final in 13 years. Against the Catalan side, we made it to the final thanks to a big 4-0 at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano in the first leg. The rest was enough to go through despite a defeat away at Camp Nou. Now, we have the chance to write a new page in Atlético de Madrid’s history. Let’s go!
