STAR OF A CAMPAIGN RAISING AWARENESS OF BRAIN INJURY

Mario Suarez: "The respect we have from the opposition has been earned on the field"

The Atletico midfielder appeared before the media in a ceremony held at the Palco Vip in the Vicente Calderon Stadium in which the players spoke of the evolution of his injury.

Mario Suarez spoke to reporters who attended the event saying "I’m better, but I’ve got to be patient. It's a bone issue and it’s slow, but I'm in good hands and I have confidence in the club's medical services. The important thing is to be patient and recover 100%.".

"The only thing that worries me is getting back to help the team. I want to be back in top condition and doing well and also have the opportunity to return to the national team," he said regarding a possible call from Vicente del Bosque.

As for his recovery, he said that "there is not much more I can do, I’m working hard in the pool, but it's slow going. Being a bone issue we have to wait for it to weld back together. Patience, work and many hours of treatment, I cannot say how long, but when I return it will be when it is 100 %."

About the accolades received from the Getafe players, he stressed that "the respect we receive from teams has been won on the field. We’re grateful for these nice word from other teams, but the important thing happening on the field. Getafe will be complicated and it’s another final for us, our mentality is to go game by game. We will continue with the same philosophy, is the one that counts and that is helping us to be where we are," he said.
