THANKS TO THE CONTRIBUTION OF THOUSANDS OF ATLÉTICO FANS

Luis Aragonés statue now on display at the Wanda Metropolitano

The event was attended by many familiar faces from the Atleti family, such as Diego Pablo Simeone and Koke from the first team, club legends and representatives of different Red & White collectives, such as the Senate, fan clubs, club members, and volunteers.

The Wanda Metropolitano hosted on Friday the unveiling of the statue in honour of Luis Aragonés. The sculpture of our legend, which has been made possible thanks to the contribution of thousands of Atlético fans, is located on the main façade of our stadium – in front of the avenue that bears his name. The ceremony was presided over by Enrique Cerezo, who thanked the fans and the family of Luis Aragonés for the beautiful initiative.

"The great Atlético family has once again shown that it has a memory and honours the people who have made our club great," our President said.

Afterwards, the author of the sculpture Alicia Huertas, Luis Aragonés Jr, Aragonés’ teammate José Armando Ufarte and Fernando Torres – who played under the coach for Atlético de Madrid and the Spain national team – took to the stage to share their thoughts on the fans’ beautiful gesture and to remember our legendary former player and coach.

The event was attended by many familiar faces from the Atlético family such as Diego Pablo Simeone and Koke from the first team, club board member Antonio Alonso, shareholder Miguel Pérez, legends such as Adelardo, Gárate, Tomás, Solozábal, Orozco, Marcelino, Roberto Rodríguez, Martínez Jayo, Cacho Heredia, Luiz Pereira, Bermejo, Rodri, Clemente, Gustavo de la Parra, Paredes, Roberto Rodríguez, Miguel Ángel Ruiz, Abel, Pedraza, Toni Muñoz, Roberto Fresnedoso, Gabi, David Villa, Dani, Enrique Morán and Carlos Peña, as well as representatives of different Red & White collectives, such as the Senate, fan clubs, club members, and volunteers.

To end the first part of the event, Luis Aragonés’s son presented a cheque to the Spanish Association Against Cancer, which was collected by Charo Rodríguez, director and treasurer of the organisation, and Isabel Bauluz, general director of the association in Madrid, with the amount that was not used to finance the cost of the sculpture.

Afterwards, the guests went outside the stadium, on the main façade, where Alicia Huertas, Luis Aragonés Jr, José Armando Ufarte, Fernando Torres and two fans unveiled the statue of our legend. A place that from now on will be a must-see for all Atlético fans and football lovers who come to the Wanda Metropolitano.
