Last League match in the history of the Calderón
Our stadium will host our team’s last official fixture with an attractive match against Athletic Club.
With the direct access to the next UEFA Champions League secured, Atlético de Madrid wants to end the 2016-2017 season by delivering a win to the fans in a historic evening for the club, because today, the Vicente Calderón Stadium will hold the last official match of Simeone’s players before the start of next season at the Wanda Metropolitano.
A special fixture that it will be even more special because of the rival we will play against: an Athletic Club that was the founding club of our team and with which we will have the honour of saying good-bye to the 50-year-old red and white coliseum. Additionally, if this wasn’t enough for such an emotional evening, the Atlético de Madrid Women’s team, flaming League champion just this Saturday, will be honoured.
The 'Lions', who play to be in the next UEFA Europa League, have only won one point in their last five League visits to the Calderón, accumulating four defeats, a tie, two goals scored and ten conceded. Last season, the players of Ernesto Valverde lost by 2-1, with goals by Saúl and Antoine Griezmann.
