LALIGA kicks off in Barcelona
Our team begins its official campaign this Sunday away against Espanyol.
Atleti will kick off their 2025/26 LALIGA season this Sunday at 21:30 CEST against RCD Espanyol in Barcelona.
Simeone’s side will take on this exciting new season with seven new signings – Álex Baena, Johnny Cardoso, Matteo Ruggeri, Thiago Almada, Marc Pubill, Dávid Hancko, and Giacomo Raspadori - and three pre-season matches under their belt: an away defeat to FC Porto, a draw with Rayo Vallecano in a private friendly at the Majadahonda Sports Centre, and a victory over Newcastle United at St James’ Park.
Espanyol, led by Manolo González, have played five friendlies this summer, recording four wins and one draw: 1–4 against Peralada, 2–1 against Southampton, 0–1 against Wolfsburg, 0–1 against Union Berlin, and a 2-2 draw with Newcastle.
The last time we played the Pericos, back in March at the RCDE Stadium, the game ended 1–1 with goals from Azpilicueta and Javi Puado.
Now to claim our first victory of the season!
