AHEAD OF OUR GAME AGAINST VALENCIA

Jorge Griffa receives tribute at the Wanda Metropolitano

The Red & White legend was presented with a commemorative plaque by José Eulogio Gárate and Adelardo Rodríguez as a tribute to his 291 official matches at our club.

Jorge Bernardo Griffa (Casilda, Argentina, May 7, 1935) received an emotional tribute at the Wanda Metropolitano ahead of Saturday’s match against Valencia. The Argentine was presented with a commemorative plaque by José Eulogio Gárate and Adelardo Rodríguez as a tribute to the 291 official games he played for Atleti over the course of 10 seasons.

The Red & White legend arrived at our club in 1959 from Newell's Old Boys. Griffa, one of the best defenders in our club history, won five titles at Atleti: one league trophy (1965/55), three cups (1960, 1961 and 1965) and the 1962 European Cup Winners' Cup.

Between 1969 – when he left our club – and 2011, Griffa held the record for the most appearances at Atleti for a non-Spanish player, until it was broken by Luis Amaranto Perea.

Congratulations, Jorge!
