Godín: “We have to win and hope; anything can happen in a football match”
The Uruguayan is confident of getting past the group stage
Diego Godín knows that anything can happen in a football match and for this reason appeared confident in being able to get past the group stage. The first requirement will be to beat Bayer and hope that Aris does not defeat Roseborg. “The players are fine. Our first goal will be to win, although we’re aware that we don’t depend on ourselves to pass through to the next round. We have to win and hope. Anything can happen in a football match,” he pointed out.
The Uruguayan centre-half, just like the rest of his teammates, knows that “passing through isn’t improbable. Although we depend on ourselves in the sense that we have to win the game. That condition is essential and we’ll surely win. This is football and anything can happen. You can have three results: win, draw or lose. It’s going to be a tough match.”
The Atlético de Madrid defender doesn’t think that Rosenborg upsetting Aris would be a huge surprise. “We have to play to win, regardless of what happens in Greece. We already saw that you can lose a match in 10 minutes at the Vicente Calderón. I think that the best thing is to not follow the result of the Aris-Rosenborg fixture. We have to win and hope,” he stated.
“We’re going to go out to win the match, and play as we always do. We were truly disheartened after the loss to Aris. As we’re the reigning champions, we wanted to go as far as possible and falling in the first round wouldn’t be very nice. We have to give a good image,” Diego Godín wrapped up.
