THE CAPTAIN REACHED THE HISTORIC FIGURE IN THE DERBY AT THE SANTIAGO BERNABÉU

Gabi reached 300 matches as an Atlético

He made his debut in January of 2004 in a Cup game at the Sanchez Pizjuán Stadium, with Simeone and Germán Burgos in the starting eleven. Now, 12 years later, both manage him from the bench and he has played 300 matches as an Atlético.

Historic record of Gabi with the red and white shirt in the derby against Real Madrid at the Bernabéu. The captain reached 300 games, a figure broken down thus: 218 League matches, 29 in the King’s Cup, 3 in the Spanish Super Cup, 1 in the UEFA Super Cup and 49 in continental competitions. Spectacular figures for a player from our ranks who, after going through two loans, a season with Getafe (2004/05) first and then four years in Zaragoza (2007/11), returned with experience to give his all to his beloved team.

Gabi made his debut in the first team thanks to Gregorio Manzano, in the 2003/04 season, first in the Cup at the Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium and shortly after, in the League at Mestalla against Valencia. He shared a dressing room with Diego Pablo Simeone and Germán Burgos, the current first and second coaches. Now, Gabi counts on them on the bench and is actively participating in one of the most glorious stages of the club. His record includes a League, a King’s Cup, a Europa League, a UEFA Super Cup and a Spanish Super Cup. A record list that is not finished because Gabi will still be around for a while.
