THE LEGEND OF SPANISH FOOTBALL RETURNS TO THE CLUB AS A BOARD MEMBER

David Villa becomes new Atlético de Madrid board member

The club’s main governing body was formed on Thursday, with Enrique Cerezo continuing as Chairman and Miguel Ángel Gil as CEO.

Atlético de Madrid’s new Board of Directors was formed on Thursday morning at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano. It will consist of eleven members and will continue to be chaired by Enrique Cerezo, whereas Miguel Ángel Gil will remain CEO.

One of the most recognizable names in this new stage of the club’s main governing body is David Villa. A legend of Spanish football, the striker was part of the Atlético de Madrid side that won the LaLiga title in the 2013/14 season, contributing with his goals in a historic campaign that also saw the team reach the Champions League final. David Villa now returns to our club as one of the members of the Board of Directors.

The Spain national team’s all-time top scorer expressed his excitement about this new professional challenge as a board member: “I’m very happy to be able to return to the club with new responsibilities, but with the same desire to keep helping make Atlético de Madrid even greater season after season. The club has experienced significant growth in recent years, and I hope to contribute to us continuing to achieve success. I’m very grateful that they have thought of me for this role.”

Enrique Cerezo welcomed Villa back to our club: “This has always been your home, David. We are thrilled that you have accepted this challenge, and I am convinced that, with your vast experience, you will help us make Atlético de Madrid even stronger.”
