Chelsea, one of the most prize-winning English clubs

Fourth fixture in Europe against Chelsea, which we beat in the 2012 UEFA Super Cup and eliminated them in the 2014 Champions semi-finals.

Chelsea FC is one of the most prize-winning English clubs, with 24 national titles and 5 international ones. It will be the fourth time that we play against Chelsea in a European competition. The first one was in the Champions group stage in the 2009-10 season, the one we lost in Stamford Bridge by 4-0 and tied at the Calderón (2-2). The next time was to decide the champion of the UEFA Super Cup in Monaco, in 2012. Atlético won by 4-1 with Fernando Torres as a 'blue' player. And the last match was in the 13-14 season, in the Champions League semi-finals. After the goalless tie at the Calderón, Simeone’s players won by 1-3 at Stamford Bridge. Fernando Torres scored for Chelsea and we came back with goals from Adrián, Arda Turan and Diego Costa, the latter from the penalty spot.

Chelsea’s squad relies on several players known in LaLiga, and whom are international with “La Roja”. Apart from the six players already mentioned, there is one who was key in the winning of several titles with Atlético, the Belgian keeper Courtois. He won a Europe League, a UEFA Super Cup, a King’s Cup and LaLiga defending our colours.
