Atlético return to training with an hour of work in the rain

Ujfalusi and Reyes retired from the session early

On Monday 6 December, the ‘rojiblanco’ first squad returned to training with their sights set on this Saturday’s match against Deportivo at 10 pm at Estadio Vicente Calderón. The Atleti players, after a chat in the dressing room, headed to the gym to lift for 30 minutes.

Afterwards, they took the normal training pitch for an hour of work under a heavy rainfall. After the warm-up, they played a game on the half-pitch without goalkeepers to work on ball control and possession. On one side, and without bibs, were Ujfalusi, Perea, Mario, Assunçao, Tiago, Agüero, Borja, Simao, Filipe Luis and Domínguez. Facing them, with bibs, were Juanito, Antonio López, Fran Mérida, Valera, Camacho, Diego Costa, Godín, Reyes, Forlán and Raúl García.

During this time the three goalkeepers, De Gea, Joel and Asenjo, did specific work with Emilio Álvarez, the ‘rojiblanco’ goalkeeping coach.

For the next drill, in a practice match on almost a full pitch with a single goalie, Ujfalusi and Reyes left the session. The game was to work on attacking-defending, with a nine-player formation, with one goalkeeper, while the other group had ten men and no keeper. After playing two scrimmages with this system and changing players, the session ended for those who played the most minutes in Valencia on Saturday, while the others played a small-sided game in a reduced area with two goals, occupied by Joel and Asenjo.
