Miranda received a heartfelt tribute at the Wanda Metropolitano
The Wanda Metropolitano paid tribute to our Atleti legend during the match against Inter.
Atlético fans and Joao Mirando lived an emotional match at the Wanda Metropolitano. Miranda defended our colors for four seasons and was received at our stadium with love and his “Miranda, ale, ale, ale...” chant. He gave his thanks to the supporters and was accompanied by another legend, Luiz Pereira, who handed him a plaque commemorating the 178 matches he played for our club.
Miranda was a disciplined, tough and classy defender that will always be remembered by Atlético supporters. Despite being a defender, he had a great offensive presence. His goal in extra time of the 2013 Copa del Rey Final against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu will never be forgotten.
In total, Miranda played 178 matches for our club (117 in LaLiga, 21 in the UEFA Champions League, 18 in the UEFA Europa League, 17 in the Copa del Rey, four in the Spanish Super Cup and one in the UEFA Super Cup). He scored 13 goals and won five trophies: LaLiga, Europa League, Copa del Rey, Spanish Super Cup and UEFA Super Cup.
Our paths crossed again during the International Champions Cup and it’s an absolute joy to pay tribute to such an important Atlético legend.
