Atlético de Madrid, Telefónica sign strategic agreement for the next four seasons
Our President Enrique Cerezo, Club CEO Miguel Ángel Gil and Telefónica Spain President Emilio Gayo signed the agreement through which the telecommunications company will become the technology provider for our club and the Wanda Metropolitano.
Telefónica and Atlético de Madrid have signed a strategic agreement through which the telecommunications company will become the technology provider for our club and the Wanda Metropolitano for the next four seasons. The agreement was presented on Tuesday at the Wanda Metropolitano Auditorium. Atlético de Madrid President Enrique Cerezo, Club CEO Miguel Ángel Gil and Telefónica Spain President Emilio Gayo attended the event, as well as the captains of our men's and women's teams Godín, Koke, Griezmann, Juanfran, Amanda, Lola Gallardo, Meseguer and Ángela Sosa. With this agreement, Atlético de Madrid continues to innovate in order to improve our fans' experience.
Our President highlighted the importance of the agreement.
"The biggest beneficiaries will be our club members and the fans that come to our stadium to enjoy a football match or any other event," Enrique Cerezo said.
Emilio Gayo spoke about the ongoing partnership between both parties.
"We're very proud to work with Atlético de Madrid. Both are very important companies in Spain and the world, and we share the same leadership and values. We're going to sponsor the men's and women's teams, and both parties will be strategic partners. The first thing we did together was to equip the stadium with state-of-the-art technological infrastructures such as the ‘ribbon board 360.’ The sporting facilities have been praised by the users and other clubs. These good results have encouraged us to take another step in our partnership," the Telefónica Spain President said.
Miguel Ángel Gil was happy with agreement.
"We're very happy with this partnership, which allows us to join forces with an excellent partner who will help us to grow in the oming years. Their experience in all kinds of markets will help us to reinvent ourselves to benefit our fans. The line-up show is spectacular, but the most important things for us are connectivity, safety and services. Technology allows us to evolve and optimize the services we can offer," our CEO said.
The Wanda Metropolitano's opening in 2017 was the starting point of the partnership between Telefónica and Atlético de Madrid. The home of all the Atléticos became the first 100% IP stadium in Europe, with 6,700 network connections, 165 switches and 75 network nodes, 900 TVs operated remotely around the stadium and the system of screens, including the Ribbon Board 360°. The Wanda Metropolitano has therefore become the first smart stadium in Europe, thanks to its communications and security network.
With this partnership, we will look to further enhance the stadium's experience for our fans.
