Atlético begin to get ready for their league match against Mallorca
Tiago and Borja train apart from the group
Atlético de Madrid returned to training with their minds set on next Monday night’s match-up with Mallorca. The defeat to Real Madrid has been forgotten and now the ‘rojiblancos’ have focused their attention on La Liga. Champions spots are near and Quique Sánchez Flores’ lads know that they need a victory against Mallorca so that they don’t fall off the pace of those above them.
Tiago and Borja did alternative work apart from the group. Both players are recovering from their respective injuries and worked out with physical trainer/physiotherapist Óscar Pitillas.
In this session, those players who were starters against Real Madrid held a regenerative training in the gym. Absent were Mario Suárez and David De Gea, who travelled to the Fremap Clinic along with the Club Chief of Medical Services, José María Villalón, to undergo tests to find out the scope of their injuries. The goalkeeper, who was involved in a collision with Cristiano Ronaldo, underwent an MRI which confirmed that he didn’t suffer any type of serious injury, while Mario Suárez has a muscular injury in his groin.
Joining the first squad on the pitch at the Majadahonda Sports Complex were reserve players Vitor, Michel, Joseph, Jiménez and Sito, as they began to prepare for next Monday’s fixture against Real Mallorca.
The practice, which lasted a little more than 90 minutes, got underway with physical work for one part of the squad, while goalkeepers Joel and Sito did specific work with goalkeeping coach Emilio Álvarez.
Subsequently, the players did possession games, a physical circuit with finishing and odd-number defending-attacking drills. After that, the session was wrapped up with a practice match on a small-sided field.
