Atlético and Sevilla will plant the 'Olive Tree for Peace' together with Scholas
Our club will seal next Sunday at the Vicente Calderón the agreement reached on the 19th of November with the Scholas Occurrentes Pontifical Foundation to promote the message of Pope Francisco to implement the meeting for peace culture. The players of our club and Sevilla's will participate in the symbolic planting of an olive tree, blessed by Pope Francisco.
The commitment of Atlético de Madrid with the message promoted by Pope Francisco and Scholas Occurrentes Foundation of building peace through sport and education will be certified just before the League match that will be played by our team next Sunday, the 24th of January – starting at 16:00 – against Sevilla at the Vicente Calderón stadium.
With the support and collaboration of Sevilla FC and the Professional Football League, two teams will participate before the start of the game in the symbolic planting of an 'Olive Tree for Peace', an action that is part of the agreement signed on the 19th of November by our club with Scholas Occurrentes in the presence of the Holy Father in a ceremony that took place at the Santa Marta residence, in the Vatican City.
The first olive blessed by Pope Francisco was planted by the national teams of Argentina and Italy in August 2013 at Rome’s Olímpico. The Holy Father asked Scholas to symbolically plant the 'Olive Tree of Peace' and replicate this action throughout the world. Clubs such as FC Barcelona, AC Milan, Boca Juniors, River Plate, San Lorenzo de Almagro and Club Atlético Huracán have also have joined the universal peace gesture and the commitment to work together for 'Classics for Peace.'
