Atleti's 2025/26 reinforcements unveiled
Atlético de Madrid have experienced a whirlwind few weeks with the start of pre-season and the unveiling of their latest signings. A young project is beginning to take shape as preparations get underway for the new campaign.
The 2025/26 pre-season officially began with the traditional training camp in Los Ángeles de San Rafael, the usual starting point for the team’s physical and tactical preparations ahead of the new season. Under the guidance of Diego Pablo Simeone, the squad gathered at the facilities in Segovia, with the new signings joining up gradually.
Álex Baena and Marc Pubill, Olympic champions with the Spanish national team; Thiago Almada, a World Cup winner with Argentina; Johnny Cardoso, a USA international who is already familiar with LaLiga after his time at Real Betis; Matteo Ruggeri, an Italy international and Europa League winner with Atalanta; and the most recent arrival, Dávid Hancko, who will bring leadership to the heart of the defence — these are the new faces in Atlético de Madrid’s 2025/26 project.
In addition to these signings, two familiar faces have returned in Clément Lenglet and Juan Musso. Both players spent last season on loan at the club and have now joined on a permanent basis during this transfer window.
It has been a hectic week of presentations at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano auditorium, all of which were overseen by Enrique Cerezo. During the presentations, the Atlético president welcomed the new players, highlighting both their commitment and the high standards expected of anyone who wears the Atlético de Madrid shirt. Each of the players expressed their excitement at taking on this new challenge in their careers.
All six reinforcements are now training normally alongside the rest of the squad and have been assigned squad numbers for the upcoming season. Spaniard Álex Baena will wear the number 10 shirt, Thiago Almada takes 11, Matteo Ruggeri will sport number 3, American midfielder Johnny Cardoso will wear number 5, Slovakian centre-back Dávid Hancko takes 17, and Marc Pubill will wear number 18.
