Atleti earned a late 2-2 draw against Villarreal on Sunday at the Wanda Metropolitano. We scored through Suárez and a late Mandi own goal.

Our team started the game extremely well. We attacked, enjoyed possession, pressed high up the pitch and collected chances – the only thing missing was the goal. The player that came closest to scoring was Lemar, as a right-foot shot of his from the edge of the box ended struck the post after Rulli got his fingers to it. It was an exceptional save from the Argentine. Carrasco also had a big chance in the dying minutes of the first half as his shot was cleared off the line by a defender. Trippier was even closer to score in stoppage time. Lemar provided an excellent cross and the Englishman’s header was somehow saved by a defender.

Simeone’s men started the second half in the same fashion: attacking, attacking and attacking. However, we couldn’t convert, and Villarreal, in their first shot of the match, took the lead through Trigueros. But Atleti produced the perfect reaction as Suárez equalised shortly thereafter. Correa provided the assist. Simeone made a double substitution with 20’ to go. Saúl and De Paul came on for Carrasco and Suárez. Unfortunately, in their second attempt of the match, Villarreal scored again to take the lead. Our coach answered by bringing Kondogbia and Cunha on for Hermoso and Lemar. However, time was running out, and although we pushed until the end – Lodi came on for Giménez in what was Simeone’s last substitution – it seemed like we would go on to lose the game. But in the 95th minute, Mandi scored an own goal and Atleti picked up one point.
