At La Rosaleda to reach the last-16 of the Cup
Atlético de Madrid visit La Rosaleda on Saturday 4 January (21:30 CET, TVE) in a last-32 match against Marbella FC as we look to progress to the last-16 of the Copa del Rey.
The match has a special meaning for our coach, Diego Pablo Simeone, because it was the first stadium that he visited as the Rojiblanco coach, 13 years ago, on 7 January 2012. That match ended as a draw (0-0) and it was the first match in a long career as the first-team coach.
Our side come into the knockout stage after eliminating Vic (0-2), with two goals from Julián Álvarez, and then Cacereño (1-3), overcoming the Extremaduran’s first half goal with strikes from Lenglet, De Paul and Julián Álvarez. Meanwhile, the Andalucian side advanced by beating Bergantiños away (1-2) y then at home against Burgos (1-0).
The Costa del Sol team are in Group 2 of the Primera RFEF, the same group as our second team. Just over a month ago, Marbella visited the Centro Deportivo Majadahonda, with the match ending as a win for Fernando Torres’ Atlético B side (3-2), thanks to goals from Rayane (2) and Boñar.
Atlético will aim to secure their place in the last-16 in a packed stadium, supported by a strong group of Rojiblanco fans in the stands. The team are aiming for their thirteenth win in all competitions.
