Antonio López: “We’re confident; we have to go to San Sebastian to win”
“We want to be amongst the top four but there’s lots of league left”
Antonio López appeared confident of achieving a positive result at Anoeta. Atlético de Madrid is facing a vital match for their aspirations and needs a victory to stay in the upper part of the table and keep their Champions hopes intact. “It’s a very important match. After the game against Osasuna, the team has gained confidence and morale and we have to go to San Sebastian to win.”
Regarding what most concerns Atlético about their opponent, Real Sociedad, he said that “they put pressure on you in their stadium, but I’m more concerned about Atlético de Madrid, about us playing well, about us taking the pitch stuck in and about us being accurate in front of the goal. Real Sociedad has very good individual players, but the important thing is the group they have and the work they do. They’re a very tough and battle-hardened opponent. We’ll have to be very focused.”
With respect to the reading or assessment that he would make of these first weeks, the ‘rojiblanco’ captain highlighted that “we wanted to be amongst the first four after the ten first weeks. We were unable to do that but there’s still a lot of league left to play. It’s true that we’ve played against all of the teams at the top and now they have to fight amongst each other. We have to take advantage of that, go from match-to-match and win as many games as we can.”
He was asked if he had spoken with De Gea about the rumours swirling around the interest of other teams in signing the young ‘rojiblanco’ goalkeeper. “I haven’t spoken with him about that subject. I think that he’s really good here and calm and he’s a goalkeeper who is in the present, but also has a bright future. It’s logical for the big clubs to be interested in him because he’s a quality keeper.”
He’s taking the competition with Filipe Luis for left back well. The defender from Benidorm commented that he is “calm, relaxed and training well. I try to take as much advantage of the minutes I get as I can.”
