Xabi Alonso and Philipp Lahm appeared at the press conference prior to the match: "It will be a very intense qualifying round of 180 minutes. Respect is maximum and they deserve to be where they are for these last years," also adding that, "The match will be very intense with fans that are going to support them. We will try to get a good result to solve at the Allianz Arena.

Meanwhile, Philipp Lahm was cautious when defining a favourite for the qualifying round: "I think the chances are 50-50. It depends on the day, the physical form and if you play at home or not. The final decision will be taken on the second leg match, so right now there are no favourites."

Pep Guardiola answered the media during the visit of Bayern Munich to the Vicente Calderón, to play the Champions League semi-finals: "We have ahead of us a qualifying round that will be very cool, fun and exciting at the same time. Atlético does many things, a lot of them. To be here, you have to do many things well, not just a few things well.
