OUR NUMBER 10 HAS MADE A MAJOR IMPACT SINCE THE START OF THE SEASON

Álex Baena: attacking quality and match-winning performances

Our player has established himself as one of Atlético’s leading figures in the opening months of the season.

The numbers speak for themselves. Baena’s outstanding form this year has made him a key contributor to head coach Diego Pablo Simeone’s squad.

He has made eleven appearances across LaLiga and the UEFA Champions League, scoring five goals and providing three assists.

In his most recent outing, away to Espanyol at the RCDE Stadium, he secured all three points with a stunning stoppage-time strike into the top corner, giving the opposition goalkeeper no chance.

The match looked set to finish goalless, but his spectacular finish capped a hard-fought performance and rewarded the team’s persistent efforts throughout the 90 minutes.

Baena is a decisive player with tremendous attacking potential and a powerful shot, capable of producing performances that win matches. This is undoubtedly his most productive season in front of goal, and if he maintains this form, reaching double figures could soon be within his grasp.

His goals have come against Málaga on the opening matchday, when he scored our second goal of the season; a brace against Sevilla at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán, his standout performance so far; and Osasuna at home, before his spectacular winner in Barcelona.

He regularly steps up in the closing stages of matches to swing them in our favour, whether by scoring or providing assists. Giuliano and Cristian Romero have both benefited from his creativity, converting chances set up by the Almería-born midfielder.

He has also made his mark with the Spanish national team following their World Cup triumph last summer. During the September and October international breaks, Baena scored twice and provided an assist across Spain’s matches against England, Croatia (twice) and the Czech Republic.
