GIRONA 0-1 ATLETI

Win at the added time against Girona

A late goal scored by Álvaro Morata gave us the three points at Montilivi.

The game kicked off at Montilivi with Girona pressing high up the pitch, looking to steal in the opposition half. During the first few minutes the game was divided, with both teams giving a high tempo to the movement of the ball and trying to punish the space behind the defenders. Little by little Atleti were becoming more comfortable on the ball, arriving more assiduously in the opposition's box. On 21 minutes the first attempt from Griezmann was saved by Gazzaniga. Two minutes later, it was the Frenchman who found Memphis with a good cross and a powerful volley that failed to find the target. On 37 minutes, Memphis had another chance, but his shot went narrowly over the crossbar. That was the half-time whistle.

At the restart we quickly enjoyed a good approach that culminated in a volley from Llorente that was blocked by Gazzaniga. Although it was Atleti who had the upper hand, Girona were not going to forget to attack, as in the 54th minute when Oblak had to make himself big in front of Tsyhankov's shot. Moments later, the Slovenian was at his best again when he turned David López's great shot from midfield behind for a corner.

Oblak came up again in the 83rd minute to save a good chance from Riquelme. In the 90th minute Correa was to steal a ball inside the home area, but Arnau blocked the shot and sent it out for a corner. From that corner, after a rebound off one of the Girona defenders, Morata shot from close range to make the score 0-1. That goal would be the definitive one and would give Atlético de Madrid the victory.

The final whistle meant three more points for the team away from home, making it nine LaLiga games without defeat. The next match will be against Valencia, at our home ground, the Cívitas Metropolitano, on Saturday 18 March, from 6pm.
