Memphis Depay (13 February 1994, Moordrecht, Netherlands) is a new Atlético de Madrid player following the agreement reached with FC Barcelona for the transfer of the Dutch striker to our club, signing for the remainder of the season and two more seasons. The player presentation will be this Friday, January 20 at Cívitas Metropolitano starting at 6:00 p.m., which can be followed live through our social networks and website.
The 28-year-old is a skilful attacker with great mobility, with the ability to play both up front and on the left wing, where he has made trademark his dribbling, dribbling inside and shooting.
Trained first in the youth ranks of Sparta Rotterdam and then in the youth ranks of PSV Eindhoven, he made his debut with the first team in the 2011/12 season, remaining with them until the summer of 2015. Over the course of four seasons, he showed enormous growth year after year, leaving PSV with the Eredivisie title, in which he was also their top scorer (22 goals).
An international with Netherlands on 86 occasions to date, scoring 43 goals, he left the Netherlands for Manchester United, where he spent one and a half seasons.
After playing in the opening Europa League matches that the Red Devils would go on to win in the 2016/17 season, Memphis signed for Olympique Lyonnais, where in four and a half seasons he made 178 appearances, scoring 76 goals and providing 55 assists. He then joined FC Barcelona, contributing 12 goals to the Red & Blue in LaLiga.
The new Red & White attacker signed his contract with our club after successfully passing the relevant medical examination at the Clínica Universidad de Navarra.
