MATCH PREVIEW | ATLÉTICO DE MADRID – FC SALZBURG

Wanda Metropolitano hosts first Champions League game of the season

Atleti face Salzburg on matchday 2 of the Champions League. Kick-off is scheduled for 9pm CET on Tuesday.

The Champions League returns to the Wanda Metropolitano over eight months after the last game – our 1-0 win over Liverpool in the first leg of the last 16. Saúl scored the goal on the night. Now, our stadium will host the fixture against Salzburg – a club we’ve never faced before.

Both sides arrive at the clash in good form. The Austrians have won all five league games they’ve played, including a 2-0 win over Austria Vienna at the weekend. They’re the leaders of the competition and have won the last seven editions.

Our team beat Betis on Saturday to go unbeaten in the last 21 LaLiga matches – a club record. The Wanda Metropolitano has become a fortress for Simeone’s men. We’ve only lost once in 15 European games at our stadium and have kept 11 clean sheets in the process.

Salzburg are participating for the third time in the Champions League group stage, although they qualified 13 other times for the competition. Bayern are currently top of Group A, whereas Salzburg and Lokomotiv Moscow drew in their opening fixture.
