Victory and celebration on the 120th anniversary
Important win against Mallorca on the club's 120th anniversary. We had to come back from Nastasic's goal with one from De Paul in the first half and two more from Morata and Carrasco.
A Red & White party at the Cívitas Metropolitano to celebrate the 120th anniversary of our club, with a dedicated fan base and a spectacular mosaic with 60.000 flags to cheer on the team in search of another home victory.
However, Mallorca's first approach would be a goal. A corner kick from the left of the attack was headed home by Nastasic. The visitors' goal did nothing to change the approach of either side. Our team continued to look for the goal that would level the game, while the islanders defended even more fiercely to keep Nastasic's goal for themselves.
Atleti attack intensified at times and Lemar, with a good left-footed shot, forced Rajkovic to punch clear. The team looked for it right to the end and the reward came in the first period of the first half. A cross from Hermoso to Griezmann saw him shoot, Rajkovic cleared and the rebound was collected by Griezmann himself to give a pass that De Paul converted to make it 1-1, the result that would take them into the break.
And if it was important to go in at half-time with the scores level, the phenomenal start to the second half was even more so. Molina's measured left-footed cross from the edge of the area was expertly headed into the back of the net by Morata.
With Mallorca turned in our area, a clearance by Hermoso was picked out by Griezmann, who saw Carrasco ahead of him and gave him a pass that beat the last defender and left the Belgian in front of Rajkovic, who dribbled past him and scored into an empty net.
A fair and deserved win for our team. Next Sunday, game against Valladolid at the Nuevo Zorrilla.
