Tiago: "The team is fantastic"
The Portuguese appreciated Atlético’s victory in Madrid’s derby highlighting the work of the group at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Tiago Mendes was happy at the microphones of Canal + after our team’s victory in the Santiago Bernabéu (1-2). The Portuguese scored the first goal of the match thanks to a strategic play: "We have worked it a lot and the play was perfect. I want to dedicate it to Germán Burgos because he told me I was going to score the goal. The team’s work has been fantastic both inside and on the sidelines, and from the coaching staff too".
The midfielder highlighted the team’s group work, with particular emphasis on the players who joined from the bench: "We’re a group where all of us are important. Playing ten or twenty minutes everyone can fix it. Today we had a bench full of great players and when they came out to the field, you noticed the difference".
Burgos told me I was going to score the goal
Tiago acknowledged the importance of winning against their eternal rival in this League start: "Madrid always demands much from us. We’re fantastic as a team, we give 100 per cent and it’s not easy at all to win here. It’s a demonstration of the team’s strength".
Lastly, the Portuguese praised the performance of his teammate Arda Turan, author of the victory goal: "He has that calmness. He has a tremendous quality and is a very important player. When we all give 100 per cent we're important".
