Tiago joins up as assistant of the first team’s coaching staff
The Portuguese finished his stage as an Atlético player last May and will now be an assistant of Diego Pablo Simeone's coaching staff.
Tiago Mendes will continue to be connected with our club. The Portuguese joins up as assistant of the first team’s coaching staff, led by Diego Pablo Simeone.
Last 21st of May, in the last 2016-17 LaLiga match, Tiago played his last fixture at the Vicente Calderón. The dedicated Portuguese football player said goodbye to the fans, and the entire Atlético family wanted to honour him with a great ovation when, in the 87th minute, he was substituted in the match played against Athletic Club. On this match – that finished with a 3-1 win for our team – he wore the captain's bracelet which Gabi had handed over to him.
The midfielder came to Atlético de Madrid in January of 2010, loaned by Juventus. On the 20th of July of 2011 he signed with our club, and his time as our player finished last May. Now, Tiago opens a new professional cycle by signing as an assistant of the first team’s coaching staff.
