DIEGO GODÍN HIGHLIGHTED THE IMPORTANCE OF THE POINTS OF SATURDAY'S MATCH

"There are no easy matches for us; the one against Córdoba is a final"

Diego Godín was asked to address the media after Wednesday's training session. The Uruguayan spoke about Córdoba and the LFP Gala.

The first question was about the LFP Awards Gala held this past Monday. The Uruguayan said, "I knew you were going to ask me about this topic. I will ask you, who decides who wins? The team captains? We should make the votes public so there were no more speculations and let them be transparent. Personally, I would have liked to see some of my nominated teammates win. It would have been fairer. Everything that is said afterwards is speculation. The only objective award in the League is the League Championship, which is for the team with the most points and that is Atlético de Madrid. Like the Pichichi (top scorer), for who scores more goals and the Zamora, for who concedes the least number of goals. I have nothing more to add on the topic because that would be speculation and I do not like doing that. We are used to fighting and battling, like last year. Nothing will sidetrack us from our day-to-day and now we only think of Córdoba."

Regarding last week, when the team finished with three victories in as many matches, Godín said, "it has been a good week. It is true that the feeling of the last 20 minutes in Getafe were not great, but overall, the week went very well. We played a very good match against Espanyol and a great match against Malmö. And against Getafe, we had a good match, especially in the first half. They started the second half well and we had the feeling that we could do something else and close the game. We will keep the good and improve on the bad parts. We try to make the group grow, and every day we go a bit further. As long as we keep fighting for everything, I think it is easier."

As for the team's start of the season, he said, "the start has been really good. We have gone from less to more and match-by-match, the team keeps growing. The group is feeling better at every passing moment. The most important thing is the result and we are getting results when we play well and sometimes, even when we don't. Fixing things is always better when you are winning than when you are tied or losing."

Córdoba visits the Calderón this Saturday. "There are no easy matches for us. We face every match in the same way. It is not a trapped game, it's just another one, like a final for us. We are going to continue being strong in our Stadium, just as we have been so far."
