The Spanish National side victorious in their last friendly against Venezuela (0-3)
Goals from Villa, Pedro Y Xabi Alonso
The Spanish national team came out with a positive result in their last friendly of the season registering a 0-3 win over Venezuela, with an early goal from Villa after only 5 minutes setting the tone for the game in which the opposition couldn’t get close to the world champions.
It didn’t take long before Spain opened the scoring. David Villa, Spain’s all time leading international goal scorer, was on target direct from a free kick. A strike which eased in to the net with the help of the home goalkeeper Renny Vega, who looked to be doing all he could to assist the 2008 European champions.
The second goal came midway through the first half, moments after the only chance for the home side, a one on one where Maldonado drove the ball in to the chest of Víctor Valdes. A ball from deep found the feet of Villa, who released Pedro beating Vega at his far post. Spain had hardly left first gear but found themselves 2 up.
And just before the break, Xabi Alonso made it three. The man who’d not scored for Real Madrid all season, score with his first effort. A strike similar to that of Villa which went in off the post of the South Americans.
The second half saw the arrival of Arango, a player well know to Spanish fans for his time at Mallorca and Getafe’s Miku, a couple of substitutions which changed the look of the home side, allowing them to get closer to the Spain goals more often than in the first half.
Never the less, neither of them could manage a consolation goal to reduce the superiority on the Spanish team. The Venezuelans’ came closest with a powerful shot from Rincon which Valdes saved, before the game drew to a close in the José Antonio Anzoátegui stadium.
