The ‘rojiblanco’ players, satisfied with passing through to the Cup quarterfinals

Reyes: “We wanted to take the qualifying round by winning”

The Atlético de Madrid players were categorical after the Copa del Rey round of 16 return leg match against Espanyol. They were all in agreement that the team had played a solid match and that they would have liked to have finished with a win, not with a draw. Reyes and Mario Suárez were of that opinion.

Reyes stated that “in the end we’re not leaving completely happy because we wanted to take the qualifying round by winning. We didn’t have to endure because the team was always well-placed in all lines. It’s true that it was a tough match in which Espanyol attacked and we had to defend as hard as we could.”

Mario Suárez said that “it was clear to us that if we scored a goal here they’d have to score three and we now know that the team is very serious and very good in defence. After the goal we had the match under control at all times. We had clear chances to score more goals and in the end we drew, which was a pity because we wanted to finish with a clean sheet. Whenever the gaffer gives me a chance I try to take advantage of it. We all know Kun, who’s a great player, our franchise player, a world star, and we hope that he continues to play like that for our own good and for that of the entire team. Now we have to think about Monday’s match in Alicante against Hércules to earn three important points and then we’ll have time to think about Madrid.”
