The players, happy about the important win over Real Sociedad
Ujfalusi: “We’ve taken a big step forward”
The ‘rojiblanco’ players were happy after the match against Real Sociedad both for the win and the good play shown, especially in the second half, in which they scored four goals that could have been more due to the chances they created. Ujfalusi, Antonio López and Agüero all agreed upon the important of the three points, but all three are already focusing on the fixture next Saturday against Espanyol.
Tomas Ujfalusi complained about a possible foul by Llorente on the first goal and affirmed that the team had deserved to win. “I think that Llorente clipped my foot on the goal and I was unable to clear it away well. That’s why I was upset, because it could have been a foul. Before the match we discussed the fact that it was going to be a tough game against a strong opponent, especially in their home. Beating a direct rival was important. We’ve taken a big step forward and now we have to take another at home against Espanyol on Saturday. It was a well-deserved victory. We attacked well down the wings and the most important thing is that we scored goals. Now we have to think about beating Espanyol to get to where we want to be.”
Antonio López also touched on the importance of winning away from the Vicente Calderón. “It was a key victory because we really needed to win away from home. Now we’ve won two games in-a-row and that’s important. We’re not thinking about Champions League, but rather about beating Espanyol. If we do what we have to on Saturday we’ll sleep in Champions spots. Concerning the officiating, we didn’t complain before and we’re not going to do it now. Real Sociedad pushed hard in the first half, but we had control of the match. We took advantage when they dropped the pace. We deserved the win.”
Sergio Kun Agüero assisted Forlán on the first goal and scored the next two. He didn’t just stand out for that, as he also played a good all-around match. “We came out very focused in the second half and fortunately were able to earn the three points. Atlético hadn’t won in San Sebastian in a long time, but the most important thing is that we earned a win that moves us up in the table. Things weren’t going well for us as visitors; we knew that winning at Anoeta was going to be tough, but we have to go out to win in all stadiums. Now we’re in European spots, which is where everyone in the organization wants to be. I’ve always said that we have the squad to fight for the top spots. Diego and I read each other well but the important thing isn’t who scores the goals, but rather that the team wins the games. We came out with everything in the second half, were very focused, and that’s why we got the victory.”
