PREVIEW | ATLÉTICO DE MADRID VS. GIRONA FC

‘The Last Dance’

On Sunday at 19:00 CEST, our stadium will host a very special match for our fans and for Griezmann.

On Matchday 37 of LALIGA EA SPORTS, we will host Girona at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano on Sunday for our last home game of the season in front of our fans. This will also be the final match that Antoine Griezmann will play at our home ground.

Our team comes into this fixture against Miguel Ángel Sánchez’s side on the back of a 2–1 midweek victory over Osasuna at El Sadar, thanks to goals from Lookman and Sørloth. The win keeps us in fourth place on 66 points. Meanwhile, Girona will play Real Sociedad on Thursday at Montilivi and currently hold 35 points.

In the reverse fixture, our team faced Girona on the road in the final match of the year, winning 3–0 thanks to goals from Koke, Gallagher, and Griezmann. In that clash, ‘Grizi’ reached Enrique Collar’s tally, moving level in fifth place on the club’s all-time appearance rankings, a milestone he surpassed in March when he moved up to fourth place, just ahead of another legendary name from our 123-year history, Tomás Reñones. In a fairytale ending, Antoine is set to reach 500 official appearances this Sunday against Girona, sealing his legacy as a Rojiblanco icon in what will also be his final game at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano.

Sunday’s fixture will be a deeply emotional moment for Atlético fans as they fill the stadium to bid farewell to our number 7, whose goals, talent, and determination have secured his place in the club’s history.  Before, during, and after the match, the Riyadh Air Metropolitano will be full of emotion as it says goodbye to a player who came in the summer of 2014 and has grown into the club’s record goalscorer and one of its most decorated legends. Au revoir, Antoine !
