The first team visited the construction site of the 'Ciudad del Deporte'
Our players and coaching staff visited the plots making up the 'Ciudad del Deporte', located around the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, accompanied by our President Enrique Cerezo, CEO Miguel Ángel Gil and Councillor for Tourism and for the San Blas-Canillejas district, Almudena Maíllo.
Our men’s first team had a firsthand view of the steady progress being made on the 'Ciudad del Deporte', with special attention being paid to the 'Centro de Alto Rendimiento' (CAR), which will become the team’s regular training headquarters when construction of the club's great project is complete.
Leading the delegation were our President, Enrique Cerezo, our CEO, Miguel Ángel Gil, Councillor for Tourism and for the San Blas-Canillejas district, Almudena Maíllo, our General Director of Football, Carlos Bucero, General Director of Revenue and Operations, Óscar Mayo and the Director of Men’s Professional Football, Mateu Alemany.
The official team bus took the first team to different locations within the 'Ciudad del Deporte', with a special stop being made at the site of the 'Centro de Alto Rendimiento', which covers an area of 65,000 square metres and includes five pitches and a mini-stadium with a capacity of 6,000 spectators.
The players also visited the other plots within the 'Ciudad del Deporte' to get a firsthand view of the scale of this public-private initiative between the Madrid City Council and Club Atlético de Madrid, which will transform the northeastern area of Madrid. The club is investing more than 350 million euros into this project, which will cover more than 265,000 square metres, dedicated to leisure and sports which the residents of the San Blas-Canillejas district will be able to enjoy, as well as citizens of Madrid and visitors to our city.
Before beginning the visit, Miguel Ángel Gil explained the ‘Ciudad del Deporte’ project to the players and coaching staff during a meeting held in the Riyadh Air Metropolitano auditorium. Our CEO gave a detailed description of what the ‘Centro de Alto Rendimiento’ facilities will be like, where the first team players will train daily in just over a year's time. They were also able to learn about the composition of all the plots that are part of this major project being developed by the club. The players were able to complement this explanation with a virtual tour of the future facilities of the ‘Ciudad del Deporte’ thanks to an immersive development created by Atleti Lab.
