The Atleti players, happy about the win and staying in the battle for Europe

Agüero: “The team is in good form and we have to continue like this'

It was a win by the slightest of margins, but well-deserved in looking at what both teams did over the course of the match. Atletico de Madrid earned three points against Deportivo which allow them to remain in the battle for a spot in European competitions. Sergio Agüero, author of the winning goal, stated that “I’m happy. The goal allowed us to win the three points. Scoring doesn’t mean anything if you don’t earn points. Yes, I’m close to 100 goals, but the important thing is for the team to be as high as possible. I’ll limit myself to trying to play well.”   The striker spoke about the current state of the ‘rojiblanco’ squad and assured that “the team is in good form now and the important thing is to keep earning points and to qualify for Europe. We’re pleased. We’ll see what happens in the games on Sunday, although the main thing is for us to continue to play well and to win points in order to reach our goal.”   The Argentine scored again at the Riazor for the fourth straight year. Kun explained that “it’s a stadium where I do well. But that’s now in the past and the important thing is the next game. It’s true, we’ve lost points that we’re missing right now, but that belongs in the past and we can’t be thinking about it now.”   For his part, David De Gea, who again saved his team with a great save, said that “we earned three important points in a difficult stadium. Their supporters really back their team and getting the points wasn’t easy. The team was perfect, although it’s true that we had a tougher time in the opening twenty minutes. I don’t know if everything started with my save or seeing that we could score a goal, but we reacted and played very well. Before they were left a man down, we had already been playing well and when they were left with ten they felt the effects of playing a man down.
“Champions League will be very complicated. We know that but we’re going to wait and see what happens. We’ll keep working and when there are two weeks left we’ll see where we are and how far we can go. Agüero is one of the best in the world, a great help to the team.”   Filipe Luis returned to his former home and received a warm welcome. The Brazilian appeared pleased with the applause from his former fans and said that “I appreciate the people here and Deportivo. These were three important points and both teams had a lot on the line. I think that we looked for the goal more than Depor. Now we have to keep earning points and not think about the ones we left behind. We have to continue to play like this and we’ll see how far we can go,” he reflected.
