The 2026/27 season gets underway
The Riyadh Air Metropolitano will host our first LaLiga fixture of the new campaign this Wednesday at 21:00 CEST.
Atleti begin the 2026/27 season in front of our home support. The Riyadh Air Metropolitano will be the setting for our LaLiga opener against Málaga this Wednesday, with kick-off at 21:00 CEST.
The Andalusian side, who have just been promoted, return to the top flight after eight years competing in LaLiga Hypermotion and Primera RFEF. Juan Funes' team will therefore be looking to mark their return to the highest level of Spanish football by claiming all three points. Interestingly, Málaga were our first opponents at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano almost nine years ago, on 16 September 2017, when our stadium was officially inaugurated. That was also the last time we hosted the Andalusian side, with Atlético securing a 1-0 victory thanks to a goal from Antoine Griezmann.
Atleti, meanwhile, begin an exciting new campaign after finishing fourth in the 2025/26 LaLiga season. Wednesday's match could see our new signings - Grimaldo, Hjulmand, Kang In and Romero - make their competitive debuts in red and white in front of our supporters, as they look to begin their Atlético careers by helping the team claim the first three points of the season.
