FIRST TEAM SQUAD RETURNS TO WORK

The 2013/14 season starts this Friday

Diego Pablo Simeone and his players will meet again in the Majadahonda Sports City on Friday July 5 to begin to work towards an exciting season with the running of the Supercopa of Spain and the Champions League.

On June 1st, the Romareda lived the last game of the season for Atletico. Before going on holiday they signed off with a 1-3 victory against Zaragoza with goals from Arda and Diego Costa on two occasions to close a dream season. A course that started with the conquest of the European Super Cup in Monaco against Chelsea and closed with the tenth Cup in history of the club and achieving brilliant third place in the league sealing directly qualification in the next edition of the Champions League.

After 34 days rest, Simeone and his pupils will meet again on Friday to start work towards an exciting season for them and their fans. First with relevant medical checks of this early season and later, on Monday, 8th they’ll move to Los Angeles de San Rafael to perform the first stage of preseason and lay the foundations of the work carried out throughout the season. This first phase will end on the 21st with a friendly in Burgo de Osma against Numancia (19.00 hours) before travelling to South America to play on the 25th in the Euro-American Cup, hosted by DIRECTV.

On Saturday July 27 Simeone’s men will face Estudiantes in the Estadio Unico de la Plata in the of the Euro-American Cup, a tournament which brings together a total of eleven teams from nine different countries (Chile U.Católica , Sevilla FC, D.Anzoátegui of Venezuela, FC Porto of Portugal, Atletico Nacional and Millonarios of Colombia, Ecuador Barcelona, Sporting Cristal of Peru, Uruguay National, as well as Estudiantes and Atletico).

On Wednesday 31, at the stadium Alejandro Villanueva de Lima, Simeone’s men will play against Sporting Cristal of Peru. The third and final match for Atletico Madrid on South American soil will be played on August 4th at the Centenario stadium in Montevideo against Nacional. Back to Spanish territory, on 10 August, Simeone’s men play against UD Las Palmas in Gran Canaria Stadium.

The League, whose schedule will be announced next Tuesday the 9th of July 9, will begin the weekend of the 17th and 18th of August. Atletico, Cup champion will face FC Barcelona, the league champions in the Super Cup, to be played over two legs on August 21st at the Vicente Calderon and return seven days later (August 28) at the Camp Nou.
