Atleti suffered a late 2-1 defeat at Feyenoord on Sunday in the last friendly game of the summer. Carrasco was sent off in the first half and Correa equalised in the final minutes of the match, but the hosts scored the winner in stoppage time.
Our team had the first chances of the game as our centre-backs won several duels in the air and were very close to scoring. However, the hosts took the lead from a set piece. Atleti reacted well and continued to create chances. The best was a header from Giménez that struck the crossbar. The keeper was then forced to make a good save to deny Lemar. Unfortunately, Carrasco was sent off in the dying minutes of the first half, which meant we had to play with 10 men for over half of the match. Lemar almost scored in stoppage time, but we trailed 1-0 at the break.
Simeone made four changes at half-time as Vrsaljko, Kondogbia, Serrano and Herrera came on for Nehuén, Koke, Llorente and Lemar. De Paul and Giuliano later made way for Arias and Correa. With just less than half an hour to go, Manu Sánchez came on for Giménez. We were unable to replicate our offensive production in the second half, so Simeone decided to bring Camello on for Saúl. The Spanish striker almost scored 5’ later as the keeper made a fine save to deny him. But immediately after, Correa was sent through on goal and finished in style to make things 1-1.
Unfortunately, Feyenoord scored in stoppage time and the game ended 2-1.
