Revolutionising football through technology
Following the implementation of the Movistar Touch project, which is available for fans with visual impairments at matches played at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, Telefónica and Atlético de Madrid are reinforcing their commitment to integration and sustainability with this global competition. We hope to take one more step towards our common goal of making an impact through innovation. René Abril, Head of Technology and Digital Development at the club, highlighted, "This initiative was born from Atleti Lab and developed with one of our most important partners in the technology field. We are proud of the dual focus of this first edition of our open innovation initiative, where we will use innovation as a vehicle to generate a positive social impact."
The first edition of this project is entirely focused on sustainable innovation - a core and distinguishing value for the growth of our club and our technology partner, Telefónica. We are therefore seeking companies with disruptive solutions to help us act as agents of change and create a positive impact - especially social, but also environmental - on our surroundings, our fans and our facilities.
Applications received by Atleti Lab before January 30 2026 will be reviewed by innovation and sustainability experts from our club and Telefónica, together with professionals from Wayra, the investment arm of our technology partner.
Entries will be evaluated based on their originality, impact and the feasibility of short-term implementation. The winning initiative will have the opportunity to develop its project for implementation during the 2026/2027 season.
