Atleti beat Getafe 2-1 away on Tuesday in epic style. The hosts took the lead but a Suárez brace earned us a late comeback victory.

Savic had the first attempt of the game – a header that was off target after touching on a Getafe player. Both sides struggled to create chances in what was a hard-fought first half. We did come very close to scoring in a double chance for Suárez and Correa. The Uruguayan’s close-range half volley was saved in style by the keeper and the Argentine was unable to put the ball in the back of the net after getting first to the rebound. Unfortunately, the hosts took the lead in stoppage time in their first attempt of the match. Maksimovic provided the cross and Mitrovic headed it into the back of the net.

There were no substitutions at half-time as Atleti tried to level the scoreboard. Griezmann had the first chance of the second half and came inches away from scoring. The Frenchman struck it with his left foot on a half volley and the ball flew just wide. Trippier and Lodi made way for Hermoso and De Paul just after the hour mark. Simeone’s next change came five minutes later, when Cunha came on for Griezmann. Suárez had a massive chance with just over 20’ to go, but his header hit the crossbar. Atleti pushed and pushed for the equaliser and Savic once again came close to finding it. Aleña was sent off in the 74th minute for a challenge on Cunha as we increased the rhythm. We eventually found the equaliser through a powerful left-foot strike from Suárez. Hermoso provided the assist and gave us extra energy to find the winner. Vrsaljko came on for Herrera in the last few minutes of the game… which had in store one more special moment for us. In stoppage time, Suárez headed home a cross from the right wing to earn us another stoppage time comeback win. Atleti held on to the lead and won the derby 2-1.
