Straight to Champions
Atlético de Madrid won the point that was missing to reach the Champions League Group Phase directly, achieving the objective set since the beginning of the season. In the end, Granada was also safe with the draw.
Granada: Roberto; Nyom, Babin, Mainz, Juan Carlos; Rubén Pérez, Iturra; Robert Ibáñez (Candeias, 78’), Piti (Fran Rico, 37’), Rochina (Riki, 88’); and El Arabi.
Atlético de Madrid: Oblak; Juanfran, Miranda, Godín, Siqueira (Gámez, 90’); Tiago; Raúl García, Gabi, Koke, Saúl (Raúl Jiménez, 83’); and Griezmann.
Referee: González González (Castillian-Leonese Committee).
Atlético de Madrid added the point it need in Granada to achieve its goal of finishing on the podium of the League and that third place which made it go directly to the Champions League Group Phase. Granada, on the other hand, also achieved its goal of saving the category thanks to this tie and the results of its direct rivals.
A lot of tension in the New Los Cármenes, mostly from the locals, who in the first half hardly unsettled Oblak. Griezmann was the first who tried to beat Roberto a quarter of an hour into the match but his shot didn’t find the goal. In the second half, Koke gave Roberto a hard time with a long-range shot that was saved by Granada’s goalkeeper. It was the only clear chance of either team.
Atlético de Madrid, thus, will play for the first time the Champions League three seasons in a row, establishing itself among the best in the League since Diego Pablo Simeone came to the bench.
