MATCH RECAP

Solid match against Arsenal

Our team had a great showing against Arsenal in our International Champions Cup debut in Singapore. The match ended 1-1 and went straight to penalties, where we won the shootout. Both Rodrigo and Adán made their unofficial debuts for our club.

Our first preseason friendly of the 2018/19 season ended in a one-all draw against Arsenal at the Singapore National Stadium.

Arsenal started off strongly and Jan Oblak had to make two great saves. However, our team slowly got into the groove of the match and took control. And just a few minutes before half-time, we took the lead with a brilliant Luciano Vietto goal. Ángel Correa made a great run and crossed the ball to Vietto, who headed it home.

At the start of the second half, Antonio Adán came on for the first time as an Atlético. However, luck wasn't on our side as Arsenal equalized in the 47th minute through a brilliant strike that went into the top corner.

We had great chances to score the winning goal, but our shots weren't on target or went straight to the Arsenal keeper. Diego Pablo Simeone also heavily mixed up the side in the second half as he gave minutes to Aitor, Borja, Carlos Isaac, Mollejo, Mikel Carro, Solano and Tachi.

The matched ended 1-1 and we ended up winning it in the penalty shootout (3-1). Adán had a stunning performance in the shootout and saved three penalties and scored our winning goal. Our next ICC match will be on the 30th against PSG.
