End of Atlético de Madrid’s participation in the 2014 EuroAmerican Cup. The red and whites ended the summer tournament with a goalless draw against the Mexican Club América, which won from the penalty spot.

Despite not having achieved the victory, Diego Pablo Simeone was satisfied with the performance of his players in the Azteca Stadium: "Today’s match was a good one, they played well as a team. It’s very difficult with them playing as a local team", the Argentinian coach said.

For the coach, one of the game’s keys was the longer running-in of the team directed by Antonio Mohamed, since they’re already immersed in their League: "America is in the middle of the League. We’re starting. We’re working from less to more. In Madrid we’ll meet with the other group of players who’re working".

Today’s work was good because we kept the structure

Lastly, the Argentinian coach made reference to the recently deceased Julio Grondona, President of the AFA: "Few words, a lot of pain. I met him when I was very young on the youth league and I left at 32. I shared many experiences which have helped me for life. Thank him everything he left us. He’s a man I’ll remember for the rest of my life". For this reason, Simeone highlighted the work of the midfielders who played on the Azteca field: "Gabi and Koke pressured forward very well. Today’s match was good work, because we follow the goal we had of maintaining the structure".
