Simeone: "We have won an important match"
Atlético’s coach highlighted the value of the win in the first leg of the round of 16 against Real Madrid (2-0).
The Argentinian valued the first leg match in the round of 16: "It was quite a hard match. There were quite a few changes and the guys responded well. The second half was very complete, neat, with work. The changes provided vitality to the match and that allowed us to score and occupy the spaces to defend well."
The red and white coach highlighted the importance of the competitiveness that exists in the locker room: "I don't understand this game any other way than to compete. To be able to compete outside, you have to compete internally. If we want the possibility of keeping up with competition, we need the group. We try to use our best weapons to show the people of Atlético de Madrid what it means to play in Atlético de Madrid."
Lastly, Simeone stressed the importance of not being overconfident about the second leg: "We have won an important match, the first part of a qualifying round and we have great respect for the rival because they have a team with a tremendous hierarchy, a very good coach and the round is not closed."
