Simeone: "We dominated the space and the field "
The Atletico manager assessed his team during the first half and great work of Adrian.
Simeone summed up the game in the press room and praised his team 's reaction when the Zenit pressed in the second half : "We dominated the space and the field in the first half without allowing them to get at us. We did not have many chances to get in front. In the second half Zenit improved and changed their system, they attacked with more people on the inside, but the team reacted very well and got back in to the game, we created the second goal and then the third to round off very good game".
The Argentine also acknowledged the work of Adrian. "He's a very important player for us and worked towards what the team needed. He had an understanding of how to play the game with few the opportunities and so relied on his speed in the best way. I'm happy with his work".
The Argentine again stressed how important it is to have a competitive Atletico. "We have a more competitive squad than what we had a year and half ago, the club has renewed contract which has increased competition internally"
Simeone repeated the message given in the pre-match conference. "I repeat what I said yesterday, for me the Zenit and Porto have more experience in this competition, but that does not mean they are better. We have the ability, in every move in every game like we have been doing, this is a virtue," he said.
