Simeone: "The goal is to try to direct the match to the where we want"
Atlético’s coach acknowledged that the team’s way of playing will stay the same, highly physical and intense.
Diego Pablo Simeone admitted in the press conference prior to the Spanish Super Cup duel, that they’ll try to make the game that suits them to win the trophy. "The objective, speaking of the Super Cup, is to try, in our way, to take the match where we want to, and obviously win it", he pointed out.
Regarding the League Championship, Atlético’s coach acknowledged that the team has undergone major changes and depending on how the season advances, the place they occupy will be determined. "There are four different players from those last year. It’s a major change, because their characterisitics are not the same and the adaptation time has been very short. We will see throughout the year where the team is going to, but for today, our reality is to look at Sevilla, Valencia, Athletic, which are the teams with which we’ll try to fight to access the Champions League", he explained.
However, the Argentinian admitted that the team will keep last year’s line with a very solid base that makes it easy for them to play. "The team structure will not change, the intensity and aggressiveness in the game stays, because it is the basis of the team. It gives us the stability to be able to keep the same game idea", he commented.
Atlético’s coach acknowledged that the Super Cup will be a difficult challenge because Real Madrid is better than last season. "Real Madrid improved, the presence of Kroos gives them even greater potential in the midfield, more stability, balance and game. What we’ve seen of Bale is much better than in the beginning, which makes him more dangerous when attacking. They have a better team than last year", he said.
