In 2012, a coach with no European experience arrived at Atleti and soon had the Red & White fans excited. In a delicate situation at the time, Diego Pablo Simeone lifted the team and returned it to its place among the best on the continent. Today, against Real Madrid, he writes a new line in his long history as a Red & White coach. With 408 games, he becomes the coach with the most matches under his management in LaLiga for the club.
Last season, against Elche, he already reached the historic milestone of 400. Today, in a match that is always special, the coach surpasses a legend of the club: Luis Aragonés. So far, the Argentinean coach has achieved 247 wins and 95 draws, being defeated only 64 times. These statistics put him at a winning percentage of over 60% and over 84% in matches where he has taken at least one point from the three at stake.
Simeone has won the league title three times. The first time he won it as a player in the historic 1995/96 campaign. The other two, however, came as coach in the 2013/14 and 2020/21 seasons.
Congratulations, Diego Pablo!
