Simeone becomes Atleti coach with most top-flight wins
The Argentine on Saturday won his 195th game in the top-flight of Spanish football.
Diego Pablo Simeone won his 195th match in the top-flight of Spanish football as Atleti beat Alavés 2-1 on Saturday. With the victory, the Argentine has overtaken Luis Aragonés (194) as the coach with the most top-flight wins in the club’s history.
Simeone has so far coached our team in 320 games since his debut against Málaga on Jan. 7, 2012. Since then, he has won 61% of the LaLiga games he has been involved in and has only lost 15%. Moreover, since the Argentine took over, we have never finished below third spot in the league standings in any of the coach’s full seasons at our club. We also won the title in the 2013/14 season.
Luis Aragonés made his debut on Dec. 1, 1974 and went on to manage Atleti 407 times in the top-flight across four stints. He also won the league title in his third season (1976/77).
